UK Information Commissioner Reappointed

Christopher Graham, the UK Informaton Commissioner, has been reappointed for another two years. This follows from the end of his current term on 28 June 2014. It means he will have served 7 years in total. How time flies! The news came out on 18 February and Mr Graham has said he is delighted to stay on as Commissioner.

This news is undoubtedly welcome in order to have continued consistency at this time of imminent (well possible…) change with the new EU Data Protection Regulation. Interestingly Mr Graham also sees it as his role to champion privacy (and freedom of information) in the UK, Europe and internationally – a reflection of the global nature of the issue. Candidly he also says: “It’s a big responsibility and the next phase certainly won’t be dull”. We agree!
